The second in the highly-acclaimed City Secrets series, this volume brings together the recommendations of more than 200 experts, including curators, composers, artists, journalists, architects, and historians. Topics covered include art, architecture, museums, restaurants, shopping, flea markets, monasteries, churches, wineries, gardens, and day-long excursions.

Readers will see Italy through the eyes of those who know it the best, as:
• an architect leads the way through a hidden Florentine passageway built for the Medici;
• the most renowned of Italian cooks divulges her favorite Venetian eateries;
• an artist points out the courtyard of a Renaissance convent, where one may ring for access to the frescoes—and a miraculous handprint—that lie within.

Contributors include: Lidia Bastianich, Jan Morris, Dave King, John Julius Norwich, Marcella Hazan, Judith Martin, Mark Rudman, William E. Wallace, John Varriano, James Fenton, Simon Dinnerstein, and others.

  "...the best thing to happen to the Italian traveler since the Baedeker and Henry James"—Financial Times.
